Emina - Project Interfaith Video #3
Reflection questions this week:
Briefly tell us about your service this week (Where did you go? What did you do?)
Please share a time when you have been in a position of need or had to look to others for help. Briefly tell us what happened. Who or what helped you? What did you learn from that experience about yourself and others? How did this experience shape your faith/beliefs/identity and your views on service?
Watch your fellow participants videos if you have not already. What is one thing that a fellow participant said that struck you? What was your reaction to this? What about his/her post did you connect with or made you react?

Isn't it overwhelming to consider all those issues that need addressed in our communities both locally and globally? There seems to be so much work to do, but I think you are on to something, Emina -- what we CAN do, is start where we are...with our city, our neighbors, and ourselves.
Keep learning and exploring the critical questions, Emina! I am inspired by your desire to understand why things are the way they are -- and how you might be a part of the many solutions it will take to build a stronger, healthier community for all of us.
Emina- I really enjoy hearing your thoughts on these issues. What struck me the most about your video was your realization that your service experiences aren't necessarily just about you...or for that matter, the impact may not be immediately visible. I am certain for at least a few of the people you encountered on Saturday, that your time, coversation or just a simple smile may have provided them a moment of not worrying about anything else. We all have days that a simple exchange of kindness is all we really need to get through.
Emina, I so appreciate you drawing attention to the social justice issues in our own back yard. I totally agree that as important as it is to help others in communities beyond Omaha or even the U.S. it is very easy to forget about those in need who are living right next door or even in our own families. I also really admire how honest you were in reflecting on how we can lose sight of what helping others is all about (helping another human in need, recognizing that we have many of those same needs and seeing the interconnectedness of it all) and the danger of focusing only on what we are getting out of it.I have really enjoyed your posts and look forward to them continuing!
Emina,
I am so glad to hear your thoughts on issues so important to our community and the world. I have been lucky enough to see how much of yourself, your caring and your faith you put into whatever you do. I personally feel that I get so much more back from whatever I am able to do for others. I think one of the most important things we can do is listen to one another and share, person to person. You do that very well!
