Chelsea - Project Interfaith Video #2

Reflection questions this week:

Tell us a little about your service experience this week?

When you were growing up, what did your belief system, faith, family and/or culture teach you about serving others? Do you agree with this? Why or why not?

What reactions have you gotten so far to your post? How has it been for you to have to share something as personal as your beliefs and identities in such a public way?

Comments:

Chelsea, thanks for your posts! How do you feel when people in your community or school challenge your beliefs? How do you handle it in a constructive way, or do you feel you get angry or unsure of yourself?

Hi Chelsea. You said people will know you are Christian by the way you love. I think that is a great statement but it got me thinking about other faiths. Do you think people of other faiths or people without a religion can love just as much? Because I don't have a faith, but I feel like I don't need religion to love and I know I can love just as much as someone who does have a religion.

Very interesting thoughts. Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in your response to Amanda's question. Do you think it is neccessary for everyone to believe in something in order to love as much as you feel that Christians do?

No, I don't believe that it is necessary for a person to prescribe to a certain religious belief in order to love others. I know that the history of Christianity has been a mixed one of hate and tyrranny as well as of love and understanding, like any other group in history religious or not. No one is blameless. I was merely trying to convey how a song in our Christian tradition effected me. I hope that people see me as a Christian or merely a humane person by my love and the works I do. It's everybody's responsibility to care for the people of the world. If everyone loves someone else and cares for them more than for themself they in turn will be cared for and loved by someone else.
