A film followed by a panel discussion
Tuesday, November 30, 2010, 7:00 pm
Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater
1340 Mike Fahey (formerly Webster) Street
Join us for Taqwacore: The Birth of Punk Islam, a documentary
Spin Magazine hailed as one of the "Top Ten Best Music Docs of 2009." This documentary, three years in the making, follows the progression of the Muslim Punk scene: from its imaginary inception in a novel written by a convert named Michael Muhammad Knight to a full-blown, real-life scene of Muslim punk bands and their fans. Then participate in a panel discussion immediately following the film on the diversity within Muslim communities and the complexities of identity.
Tickets can be purchased at the Film Streams box office or online at: www.filmstreams.org
Check out Project Interfaith's zine about the film.
